A Year of Wedding Photography

2018 – A Year in Black & White Weddings

Wedding

2018, what a year! It was a busy one for me, as a family we made the decision to relocate over 100 miles right in the middle of Wedding season. Which was an interesting choice. But I am now back in my homeland of Shropshire and it feels great! I loved living in Yorkshire for the past 22 years and it will always be my second home. But it’s a country life for me here in Shropshire.

Now is the perfect time of year to look back on the past 12 months of Weddings. Reflection is an important part of the creative process as it’s only with a little bit of time that you can look back and objectively say how good a picture is. 2019 is my 10th professional season as a Wedding Photographer, and I thought a look back over the past 10 years might be in order. But I wanted it to be about the photographs themselves and what they mean to people. So I went back to the actual people in the photographs and asked them.

When asking all the couples I’ve photographed which is the one picture that means the most to them, what has surprised me most was the percentage of people who picked a Black & White photograph. It was two thirds of people. This got me thinking, and I put together an entire slideshow of Wedding Images I took last year and feel they look best in B&W. It really brings out the emotion of the moment, see what you think…

B&W certainly works for me! It focuses the eye on the emotion in the shot. Some things are just better in Black & White, and one day I’d love to shoot a whole wedding that way. But colour is also important at a wedding, so I have selected a few more images from last year to share here in colour…
